Standing in the park near the university, Max preferred this particular park because he tended to go unnoticed more than often here. Out in the city, truly in the city, Max could easily run into someone he crossed paths with in the courtroom, which he tried to avoid. Sure, Max was hardly the most straight-laced judge there was, but he didn't need that announced to the world where everyone could see and he was at risk of losing his job if anyone suspected something was amiss.

Wearing black pants and a dark purple t-shirt, Max stood in a large open area, eyes closed as he allowed his body to move by itself. Clearing his mind, everything fell into place when he worked with his bo-staff, something that Max had recently learned had always been a part of him, but with a bit more flair. Learning he had powers, as Hematite, Max used a double-bladed staff, which explained why he was always drawn to a staff weapon.

It had been as much of a surprise to him as it probably had been to Beryl too, that his powers stemmed from destruction and literally tearing things apart. It was appropriate, though, because Max felt as though everything needed to be torn apart and rebuilt, ever since the untimely death of his father. It wasn't even so much that his father was gone, but that the system Max had spent so many years studying to be a part of, had let him down completely. The only justice in the world was the justice you made for yourself, and now Max could understand why Beryl did what she did.

Holding his staff in both hands, Max moved as he used the staff to jab and swing at the air, powerful attacks if an object had been there to stop the motion. They were the same motions that Max used with his Annihilation Blade, before smashing the end of the staff against the grass horizontally. Not quite the same destructive field that his blade let out, but the sound, even against ground, was enough to make it clear that it would hurt, a lot.

Centering his hands on the staff, Max began spinning it, picking up speed until it moved so quickly that it seemed to disappear, the sound of it cutting through the air meeting Max's ears. He kept up his training to keep up with his Hemitate alias, to be a proper warrior on the battlefield when Beryl told him the time was right. Typically when Max came out to train, it was mostly uneventful and dull, but today was different, and Max immediately stopped his staff, holding it still as he looked around. A threat to him was nearby, he felt it, and while he didn't see the threat just yet, Max's danger precognition was beginning to highlight his possible escape routes should things go badly.

Shit.

Seraphina had seen a member of the Black Moon reveal themselves in the middle of the park. She had honestly been surprised that he would be so bold to reveal himself while he was around one of the senshi. She hadn't announced her presence to everyone in the area, but there had been a crowd gathered around her and they had started to ask her an impressive amount of questions. She almost hadn't been able to keep up with them all. She would have been overwhelmed but she was glad to have an excuse to leave.

The man was throwing fireballs out of her. Thankfully, there wasn't much that he could do against her. This clearly wasn't a man that was too bright. He was trying to take on Sailor Saturn of all people. She was running along the roof of a building as he glided away from her. She frowned and raised the Silence Glaive as she ran after him, her eyes focused on him. She wasn't going to let him get away that easily. If he was going to be a terrorist, then she was going to make him pay for what he had done.

He threw another fireball, but this time he was aiming at a more populated area. In a panic, Seraphina pushed off of the roof and she threw herself into the path of the fireball. She raised her weapon and held it in front of her. She could survive this blast and make sure that no one else got hit. It was a dumb move to jump in front of it, but it would work.

"Silence Wall!" Sera shouted and a shield of purple energy wrapped around the guardian of silence. The fireball slammed into the energy shield and she felt it throw her back hard. The flames dissipated in time for her to see her shield disappear and she was being sent back towards the Earth.

She may have been protected, but that didn't mean this wasn't going to suck.

Sailor Saturn fell backward through the branches of a tree before crashing into the ground of a nearby park. She was always so careful, but just this once, her hand loosened around the Silence Glaive. The deadly weapon flew from her grasp and skidded several dozen yards away from her. She closed her eyes and moaned in pain from the impact. "Shit."

Turning slowly, Max scanned the area for the threat he felt, as his eyes were drawn to the two figures, glowing an ominous red to Max's eyes. As the sense of impending danger grew, so did Max's visual field, allowing him to make out the details of the battle from afar. The staff she held, and the colors of her uniform, the female threat was clearly Sailor Saturn, but the man was someone that Max hadn't seen before, though his use of fire was slightly impressive.

Watching in silence, Max was curious to see how this battle would end, but he never could have predicted that what was going to happen, really would happen. As the battle came to a slightly explosive ending, Sailor Saturn was flung through the air like a rag doll, landing in the park, though quite a distance away from Max. People in the park flocked to her, gasping and screaming, begging her to be okay and to get up. Others kept their distance, hesitant, though Max wasn't sure if they hesitated to get near her, or if they hesitated in fear the other person might come after her. Frankly, Max didn't care.

If it weren't for the item that skidded recklessly along the grass towards him, Max would have turned and walked away, keeping his profile low, but how could he pass up this opportunity? "Now isn't that interesting..." Speaking softly to himself, Max dropped his bo-staff as he stepped towards the staff that belonged to Sailor Saturn. While the woman herself appeared as a dangerous figure through his sight, her glaive did not. It was of no danger to Max, not even a hint of the red glow that alerted Max to anything amiss.

Bending down, fingers wrapped around the body of the polearm, picking up the glaive. Standing upright, holding the weapon, Max felt like he was instantly transported somewhere eyes, somewhere foreign, but safe. Standing on a floating walkway, it seemed to curve all the way around the central mass, and beyond that, a castle floated. Feeling as though he were seeing things through Sailor Saturn's eyes, Max tried to turn his head and look around further, but the entire vision faded and he was back in the park, holding the glaive.

Nimble fingers instinctively spun the glaive, just as he did his bo-staff so often, and even his own bladed weapon. It wasn't quite the same, the weight of the glaive was off with just the single blade, but his fingers adjusted for that, keeping the weapon spinning in a smooth fashion. Keeping his eyes on the movement, Max took one step forward just as he stopped spinning the glaive, grasping it with both hands, Max swung the blade of the weapon at a tree, slicing through the trunk and the whole thing disintegrated into dust, as if he was using his Annihilation Blade. "Oh that's cool." Smirking to himself, the attack came as easily as his own weapon. Did Queen Beryl know that the weapons of the Sailor Guardians were not exclusive to them? That would be an interesting piece of information for her, but one that Max wasn't about to give up without payment in return.

Seraphina closed her eyes and she laid there for a moment. While she was able to heal most minor injuries, she was thankful that her role as a senshi meant that she was a lot harder to hurt than most normal humans. She was going to be fine. However, that didn't mean that crashlanding into the ground felt good. In fact, it felt god awful. She let out a groan of pain and then she opened her eyes. She needed to get up and see if she could track down that bastard...

Oh shit.

As soon as she realized what was missing from her hand, she pushed herself to her feet. The people around her were startled at her sudden movement and backed off. Some gasped in surprise. There were a few children that were still pressed too closely because they wanted to touch her. It was almost as though they were trying to test to see if she was real. She uttered a quick apology and she jumped up and away from them. Like the other senshi, she was able to take to the air easily. She hovered in the air and began to look around. There was no way that the glaive could have gotten that far away from her. She would have felt it if it had.

She finally caught sight of it and she let out a sigh of relief. She began to glide down to it when she saw a man she had never seen before. And yet something in the back of her head was telling her that she should recognize him somehow. Her pale face grew even paler as she saw him kneel down to take the weapon into his hand. Her eyes widened in horror. No one else could touch the weapon aside from her because the glaive was far too powerful. She was the only person who could truly unleash it's most devastating power, but that didn't mean that it wasn't still dangerous.

"Stop! You will harm yourse-" She broke off and landed just in front of him as she saw him take hold of her weapon. And... nothing happened. He seemed completely unharmed. Her brows knit down together in confusion and she took a few steps forward. Her long hair flowed out behind her as the wind kicked up and she saw him spin the glaive and then slice it into the tree nearby.

She clenched both fists and she frowned. She began to walk forward, her hand outstretched. There was no denying that she would fight him to get it back. There was something off about this man. "How can you hold the Silence Glaive? No one should be able to touch it, much less hold it."

Holding the weapon in his hands, Max could feel the power within it, practically calling to him, much like his own weapon. It made sense, their weapons were similar, a bladed staff weapon, but Max's was double-bladed, which was much more fun to use than this one. As the tree turned into dust, it began to blow away in the slight breeze as Max heard a woman's voice, a very familiar sound.

Turning to face her, Max smirked as she seemed to show concern for him, how cute. The way her voice sounded so normal to him, he had to scoff at how much media coverage the guardians all received, it was unnatural for a complete stranger's voice to sound familiar, and this was all part of Beryl's point. The guardians were gifted with things they didn't deserve, from the Silver Crystal to how much people obsessed about them, to the point that Max could recognize their voice, just from how often they clearly appeared on TV. But then there was the Glaive itself, something that this guardian surely didn't deserve.

"Perhaps it just needed someone stronger than a little girl to wield it." Shrugging, Max spun the Glaive naturally, his fingers moving around the polearm, keeping the momentum up. It was different than his staff or his weapon, the weight was slightly off, not perfectly balanced as the other weapons were, but Max's fingers quickly adapted to the shift in balance. He had been training with staff weapons nearly his entire life, and there was nothing more special about this one.

Watching the guardian before him, Max contemplated running with the weapon, his sight even highlighting the best exit to take. She glowed before him, that red ominous glow of an enemy, and that was where Max had the upper hand. He knew that the guardians were enemies of Beryl, but this girl had absolutely no idea that Max was an enemy of hers, though the moment he ran with her weapon, she would label him an enemy, and that would change everything for him. He was a judge, his name was in the public far too often, he couldn't afford to be an enemy of the Sailor Guardians. He had amassed his wealth from underground criminals, and that was a lifestyle he wasn't interested in losing.

Though Max knew that he couldn't make an enemy today, he always knew that he didn't have to be a friend, and since Max didn't have any friends to begin with, he wasn't interested in making any today. "Pretty irresponsible of you to just toss this away. I can understand though, these aren't easy to handle, it takes a special person. Seems like whoever gave it to you made a mistake, because I do just fine with it." As if to prove his point, Max stopped spinning it, before using the momentum to toss it onto his shoulders, literally spinning the glaive over his back before catching it again, uncut and unharmed.

There was an odd bubble of panic that was beginning to build inside of her chest. She didn't know how he was even able to hold the glaive much less pick it up. She had seen other people try to pick it up before only for the energy within the weapon to lance out to whoever dared to try and touch it. Not even the other senshi were able to touch it. There was a protection built into the Silence Glaive that only she should be able to touch it.

So why could this stranger touch it? Why could he hold it in his hands and twirl it like he had handled it his whole life? The thing that concerned her the most, however, was the fact that he could apparently channel his powers through her weapon. This wasn't natural and she didn't know what to make of it. She had so many questions and far many more concerns. She clenched her fists tightly and she narrowed her eyes at him. She had been concerned at first and she had then been surprised that he could touch her weapon. But now... she was unsettled. There was something about this man that felt familiar in the same way that Kali, Charlie, and Cordelia had felt familiar to her before.

Was it possible this was someone that she had known from the Silver Millennium? She couldn't place him mentally. Her memories from that far back were hazy at best. Unlike most of the others, she didn't spend much of her time awake. She had been literally put into a deep sleep until the moment that she was awakened as Sailor Saturn.

"That weapon was created for only one person to wield. And it was not made for you." Sailor Saturn said as she stepped forward again. This time, she didn't stop herself. He could wield her weapon, and that meant that she needed to get it away from him as quickly as possible. She couldn't take the risk that he could uncover other secrets about it. The weapon of the goddess of death was too powerful and dangerous to be in the hands of a man that clearly didn't understand its power.

"The Silence Glaive was created for me. It is an extension of myself." She was striding forward now, the ribbons on the back of her skirt flowed out behind her as well as her hair. She was going to take her weapon back by force if she had to, and she wasn't defenseless. Even without her weapon, she was still very dangerous.

Seraphina lunged forward, her hand outstretched. She was faster than most humans, so she doubted that he was going to be able to see it coming and counter it. Her gloved hand curled around the shaft of the glaive and she gripped it tightly. Her eyes were glaring into Max's eyes. She was also quite a bit stronger than her looks might suggest, and with all of the power she had, she wrenched the weapon free of his hands.

Tension filled the air between him and the Sailor Guardian, and the more Max talked, the more the tension seemed to grow. Standing face to face with her, Max easily ignored the ominous glow that told him she was an enemy, Max already knew she was an enemy, but he held the upper hand, as she didn't know anything about him. Queen Beryl would likely have insisted that Max kill the Sailor Guardian, but Max didn't need to test out the theory that this weapon in his hand likely couldn't kill its owner, he strongly believed that to be the truth.

It would have been perfect if Max could have taken the weapon for real, disappearing with it, but he had lost his opportunity when he first touched it and images popped into his mind. The images intrigued him, reminding him vaguely of strange dreams he used to have when Beryl first gave Max his powers, but it was different. Perhaps it was just something that happened when you had powers, but Max never really believed in higher powers before. These images very clearly came from Saturn's weapon, they weren't at all the same as Max's old dreams, but even now, the images of the ringed planet hovered in the back of Max's mind.

Spinning the glaive over his back, Max taunted her, and when she rose to his taunts, he grinned while she clearly began to anger. "And yet, I can wield it just fine. Seems to me like any problems using it truly lie with the person." Shrugging, Max held his ground as the guardian walked towards him, her body language trying to threaten, but falling short. Having his danger precognition, Max never had to worry about fear, if he ever found himself in a tough situation, his eyes would always show him the way to safety, and when you knew that there was always a way to safety, there was just nothing to fear anymore.

"An extension of yourself? I guess that explains why it's so easy to handle." Smirking to the guardian in front of him, his gaze watched as she lunged towards him. His sight allowed him to follow her movements easily as she came at him quickly, pulling her weapon out of his hand. As the weapon left him, Max moved himself towards his own weapon, discarded on the grass when he had picked up the bladed staff. Picking up a foot, Max stomped down on the end of his bo-staff, popping the staff up into the air, allowing Max to reach out and grab it.

"You're the one in school, right? I hope whatever you're studying is enough to quit your day job, because you're really bad at this. Your enemy got away and you lost your weapon, at the same time. Personally, I'd be embarrassed, but I presume you're pretty used to screwing up, so it's probably normal to you, after what I just saw." It wasn't that Max was intentionally trying to provoke her further, but he never kept his thoughts to himself. Even at work, Max said what was on his mind, but when you were the judge, people had to listen to you, and most of them were smart enough to agree with you.

Seraphina liked to believe she wasn't hotheaded. She wasn't like Charlie in that aspect. She wasn't as passionate in the same way as Cordelia was. She wasn't always as calm as Kali was, but she didn't allow herself to get angry often. Once she had the Silence Glaive back in her hand, she glared at the man and she stepped back. She didn't trust him and she didn't know what he was up to. This wasn't a man that was just a normal human and she could tell simply because of the power that he had used when he had been holding the glaive. No normal human could just pick up the glaive.

Her temper didn't normally flare up, but her cheeks were slightly flushed in irritation and she glared at the stranger. She had half a mind to show him that she wasn't weak at all. She wasn't a child and she was the guardian of Saturn for a reason. She was the most powerful member of the queen's senshi.

Not that it would mean much to this arrogant ass.

Sera allowed herself to inhale softly and she twirled the Silence Glaive in her hand, allowing the blade to point in his direction. It would be so easy to shout the name of an attack and allow the powerful energy to gather around the blade of her weapon. But she wasn't going to give in just like that. She wasn't going to give him what he wanted and she raised the weapon into the air, allowing it to vanish from sight so that he couldn't get the idea to try for her weapon again.

"Be careful who you taunt. Not everyone will be as forgiving as I am." Sera said, her eyes narrowed at him dangerously and then she jumped into the air. She didn't look back at him as she began to fly in the direction that the man in the Black Moon had gone. He was still her priority, even if she was left reeling about what she had just seen. This man had held her weapon. He had channeled his own power through it.

That shouldn't be possible! She needed time to digest what had happened and try and uncover the truth. She finally looked over her shoulder and frowned at him. She was going to need to investigate him further.

Fingers wrapped tightly around the bamboo of his staff, Max waited and watched, the fighter inside him beating out the joker on the outside. Gaze searching for any movement from the Sailor Guardian, Max would be ready if she attacked, if she even lunged towards him again, and he would fight back. He wanted to keep his true abilities a secret, he didn't want to transform here, not in public and ruin his civilian life, and not in front of a Sailor Guardian, who could hunt him endlessly. However, Max would do whatever he needed to do, though simply teleporting away would be the easiest solution, if he was given the opportunity.

Watching her cheeks redden, it became clear that she was angry, but that also told Max that she wasn't planning to attack. If she was going to attack, she would have done it by now, she wouldn't be trying to control herself. No, she was being the good person, and that was precisely why she was in this mess to begin with. Not able to go through with the hard decisions, always taking the weaker side, it got her beaten down to the park, and she nearly lost her weapon. Next time, if they ever met again like this, Max was determined to take her weapon and vanish with it, now that he knew he could actually use it.

Loosening up his defensive stance, Max turned staff vertical, placing one end of it on the ground as he used the staff to lean against. the bamboo bending just slightly, as it should do. "Oh, your forgiving? I just figured that since you got your ass handed to you so badly a minute ago, you weren't interested in a repeat." Max held no fear towards the guardian, keeping his demeanor calm as he responded to her. She didn't seem to listen though, as she took to the air, flying away, leaving him alone in the park.

It was an interesting encounter, and not the way Max ever predicted that he would come face to face with a Sailor Guardian, but it was a good introductory meeting. The next time, Max supposed, they would meet in battle, where his civilian identity would be hidden from her, and he could use the knowledge he gained today to gain the upper-hand in that battle, whenever it should come. Until then, Max shrugged as he returned to practicing with his staff, though it didn't feel quite as good now that he had held a weapon with true power, similar to his Annihilation Blade.
