Sitting on small ledge near the large set of stairs leading up to the Hikawa Shrine with her arms crossed in front of her chest, the blond miko awaited the arrival of yet another visitor. No one less than the king himself had announced his visit and just thinking about meeting him caused his words from that fateful day to once again resurface from the depths of her mind. Gazing down the stairway with weary eyes, Aya wished that she wouldn't know why he wished to visit her; but unfortunately, she knew all too well. Just like Lucy before him, he most likely wished to talk about the incident at the meeting as well as its aftermath. Who could hold it against him? After all he was the king and Cyn's husband. But the flaxen topped priestess dreaded talking about things again, especially since the issue already kept her away at night.

She still didn't try to cover her exhaustion with makeup as she was all too aware that no amount of makeup could possibly have hidden the traces of fatigue that blemished her face. Of course she hadn't admitted the truth to Sailor Jupiter and definitely wasn't going to tell Mason the truth about the origin of her exhaustion, but she was sure that this kind of conversation would be easier, if she wasn't this tired. However, life wasn't a bed of roses and Ayaka simply had to make the best out of this situation. Despite her reluctance, she had agreed to meet the king and the reason why she awaited his arrival from the top of the set of stairs leading to her home was simply that she wanted to know, if he was going to be alone or not. While not minding talking to him, she, however, refused to see Cyn and wouldn't shrink from cancelling the meeting and throwing the royal couple out without even listening what they had to say.

Waiting for his arrival, minutes felt like hours and the honey haired woman hoped that she would have the strength to make it through whatever fate had in store for her. Having met the king as she walked away from the meeting, he had offered her kind words and even though she hadn't reacted to them, they had still reached her and she had felt grateful. Of course they held little meaning with the way the relationship between Cynthia and her had played out, but she appreciated what he had said, even if he had only said it for what he believed to be the greater good. With the appointed time finally drawing near, the blonde took a deep breath and jumped onto her feet, hoping that this day wasn't going to become any worse than it already was.

It had been about three days since the meeting, he wanted Ayaka to cool down a little bit before talking with her, but he also didn’t know what to exactly say either. One thing was for sure he, the King was worried for her being out here all alone, so far from the palace, even when the shrine used to be the normal spot for meetings, it was when they were all teenagers and didn’t truly understand the threat. Now with the Crystal Palace, they could be more protected when they met up and took time to plan things- however, he couldn’t help but reminiscence about their old times. To him and probably the rest even, the shrine was a historical landmark, to the city, and to his memories. At least he didn’t lack these- it would be horrible.

He sure did take his time climbing the shrine’s stairs to the very top of the hill, making his way through the spiritual arch that was most likely there to detect disturbances and unknown presences that Ayaka didn’t favor. Since he did have unnatural power, it would detect him too- but not on an alarming rate, for he didn’t have a presence of corruption upon him. “Sorry for keeping you waiting, Ayaka.” It seemed he was in normal attire instead of that of the King. A dark purple shirt with dark blue jeans accompanied his outfit,

“I didn’t want to stand out while visiting you.”

The ever-stalking eye of the public would’ve turned it into a show of television reporters if given the chance. Though the vibrant golden locks of hair do catch him off-guard, for he hasn’t ever really seen her dye her hair- maybe for her it was a time of change, usually, when someone changed their hair or appearance, it was a symbol of it. While it looked remarkably good on her, he didn’t like the telltale signs of what it truly meant. Or maybe he was overly reading it? No, he wasn’t. This was Ayaka’s way of showing she was determined to change her destiny and that perhaps they had no say in what she wanted. With a few moments of silence and thought, he’d go to compliment the new look, as he should.

“You look amazing, breath-taking even, caught me in awestruck there.”

Of course, Ayaka had been a natural beauty from the get-go, long-raven locks of hair, long fluttery eyelashes, and porcelain smooth skin. It didn’t really take away her charm, “This place sure brings back memories and that’s a positive sign for me.” Cynthia had gone to meet with Layla, so he had decided it was for the best that he went to check on Ayaka in the meantime. This way neither of them would meet and he could hopefully make Ayaka feel slightly better, if not entirely- and he did not come alone exactly, but his royal guard was given strict orders to remain at the bottom of the hill and not to come into the shrine unless instructed otherwise.

“I remember when we used your shrine as a practical headquarters for the majority of our school days.”

When her gaze fell upon the familiar figure leisurely making his way up the extremely large set of stairs leading to the shrine that Ayaka had called her home for decades, a light sigh, something that was both, a sign of relief and tension, escaped her soft lips. She was glad that he hadn't brought his wife along, but that sensation of comfort wasn't enough to truly allow her weary and tense frame to relax. The way her friends treated this entire situation had made her wonder, if they actually were her friends and she could only assume that Mason had been informed about her encounter with Lucy and Yumi the other day and that he was going to side with Cyn, even if he was able to understand her; after all he was the king and her husband. With him finally reaching the top of the stairs, she bowed politely in order to greet him.

It wasn't that she wanted to distance herself from someone she considered a friend, but simply a habit. She had refrained from wearing her usual miko outfit consisting of an innocently ivory kosode and a crimson dyed naga-bakama and head instead chosen to wear a pair of simple, indigo colored jeans and a red, checkered and long-sleeved shirt. While her miko outfit usually was her attire of choice when roaming the grounds of the shrine, she didn't want to be disturbed by potential shrine visitors or attract too much attention, in case they were going to leave her home. The very moment his voice had fallen silent she greeted his apology by raising her own. "Please don't worry, I haven't been waiting for long. Great minds think alike, or so they say." Saying this, a light chuckle escaped her throat as she gestured for the king to accompany her further into the depths of the shrine.

The compliment that suddenly left his lips caught her off guard and immediately painted a light blush onto her pale, exhausted looking face. Knowing him she assumed that he just tried to be nice and cheer her up after all the things that had happened recently and so she simply answered with a quick "Thanks..."Mason only had eyes for Cyn and she sometimes wondered, if the woman she had considered her best friend for years actually knew how fortunate she was. Unfortunately Aya had to guess that the other woman simply took blessings like this for granted. Mason's resounding voice, talking about the nostalgia he felt seeing the shrine kicked the blonde out of her thoughts and brought her mind back to reality. Gazing at the male monarch with weary eyes, she could see the gleam in his as he looked around him.

Yes, this place had been more than just Aya's home in the past and the memories of their countless meetings and casual get-togethers was still vivid in her mind. She truly missed those days; the times when all of them had still been friends. "It's been decades, but to me it still feels as if it was only yesterday…" Falling silent for a moment she pulled her lips inward in a pensive motion as she continued to slowly set one foot in front of the other, leisurely making her way across the exterior landscape of the shrine, the heels of her boots clicking every time they made contact with the lithic ground below. Finally deciding to tear through the veil of silence, the honey haired priestess allowed her soft lips to part. "So, what did you come here for? What would you like to say?

Sorry, for cutting to the chase like this. I don't intend to be rude, but I'm sure you heard of Lucy's visit, so I guess there is no reason to beat around the bush."
Stopping her motions, the female Miyazaki's exhausted orbs rested on Mason. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy casual conversations capable of at least returning a spark of the sensation she used to cherish while spending time with her friends during their teenage years, but she didn't know, if she had the strength to swim in the rivers of nostalgia without drowning. If she had a wish she wouldn't have wished for eternal peace, a never-ending rule of the light or happiness; she would have simply wished to return to those days she considered the best of her rather miserable life.

There were plenty of times where Mason believed he could’ve done something different to prevent all the chaos that was now surrounding the court. But blaming himself for his absence would not get things completed- as much as he disliked the overwhelming need of holding onto pride as a means of self-preservation, he wasn’t going to tell anyone to stop. And some might see him as enabling it, however, it was the complete opposite. The king decided to work around it, “You want to get straight to it, huh?” A chuckle would release from Mason then as if dreading the whole ordeal in itself. Of course, he heard all about the meeting with Lucy, but he wasn’t here to chastise her for her feelings, it wasn’t his place to condemn anyone for feeling how they felt. While feelings were a fragile thing, everyone’s emotions, to Mason- in some fashion were validated even if the other did not understand where they were coming from.

“I did hear about it.”

Perhaps it did prompt him into action further, but he was coming here regardless of what happened between her and the other guardians. “That isn’t why I’m here.” He’d state matter-of-factly, his demeanor completely changed from relaxed, to that of authoritative. She wanted to get straight to business, and he would provide her with what she had desired. “Since you find yourself incapable of working with the Queen currently, I have decided to arrange one of my own to aid you in your possible guardian work. The division is not something I like and will not abide by- therefore, as your king, this is not a request.” Mason wouldn’t allow for disagreement, to secure her safety, this is what he had decided – as it was his responsibility to make sure all of his subjects were protected despite their own stubborn behavior.

Pride and ego would not stop the progress of the kingdom if he could help it, “I will have them stationed here with you at the shrine.” But he hadn’t exactly decided who would be coming as of yet- “I’ll send them here at the end of the month. You can prepare by then,” It was a bit forceful he believed, but he wasn’t going to allow the royal advisor to be staying at the shrine alone, especially not under such circumstances in which they were being constantly under attack. She was definitely a target if one might say so, as a guardian, that is.

“You said you were going to continue your guardian duties, and this will allow us to communicate better. It’ll also give you someone to work with since you are on edge with some. “

Mason didn’t bother to bring up Yumi, in time- he would deal with that on his own too. It wasn’t Ayaka’s duty to handle Yumi nor was it truly his, but he felt more negative about her outburst than Ayaka’s own due to the fact Ayaka was more involved within the court itself. While he didn’t know what the other had been doing, he wouldn’t discredit her if she were out and doing her own way of justice for the Kingdom. Though he did not like the blatant lack of care for his Queen in what was described to him were true, regardless- he’d talk to Yumi without bringing her into the decision he had made for Ayaka.
