A vivid sizzling noise kept tearing through the veil that had shrouded the heart of the shrine in silence while a bright, dancing flame fought off the darkness, illuminating one of the places inaccessible to the public. This room, which housed the goshintai, the sacred objects supposedly housing the kami during their visits, was where Ayaka had spent most of her time ever since her dispute with whom she had believed to be one of her, if not her best friend. Even though having been told that she wasn't needed, the fake blonde didn't waste a single thought on simply sitting back and watching the fate of the world unfold. Her prophecies had been a mess even before the fight with her friend and even though the emotional turmoil that gnawed at her scarred heart didn't make things any easier, Aya tried her best to unravel the web of darkness that had engulfed the city.

While she was sure that Violet and Layla had felt the change and were aware that an unknown threat was lurking within the shadows cast by the light protecting this world, she was just as certain that Cyn didn't have the slightest clue about what was actually happening around them. However, with her thoughts straying and her focus waning, the young priestess could once again feel the answers slip away, which evoked a deep sigh from her soft lips. Slender fingers immediately made their way towards her weary orbs the very moment her raising lids once again revealed her hazel spheres. Gently rubbing her eyes, another sigh forced its way past the gates of her throat. Not making any progress was frustrating and even though she knew that her lack of sleep was most likely to blame, there wasn't anything she could do about it as the pain simply ran too deep.

Slowly stumbling onto her feet after having spent hours sitting on the ground in hope of receiving answers from the sacred flame, the honey haired woman slowly made her way out of the room and across the hallway in search of a sink to wash her face and rekindle her spirit by fighting off the fatigue that plagued her. Reaching the sink she immediately began to collect some of the cold water within her cupped hands in order to splash it into her face. With clear droplets of cold liquid running down her rose cheeks, her motions suddenly froze abruptly and her mind was wide awake. However, it hadn't been the cold water that had caused goose bumps to spread across her body, but rather an evil presence that had suddenly appeared within the vicinity. Of course she couldn't tell what was going on, but the eerie sensation tugging at her heart set her frame in motion without the slightest trace of hesitation.

Rushing across the corridors she noticed that something was different; while she had felt many menacing presences in her life, this one actually evoked a sensation of fear within a corner of her soul's ocean. Was it because the last few days had worn her out? Was it the knowledge that her pride wouldn't allow her to call her friends for help after what had happened? Or had this unusual fear different origin? Whatever it was, Aya simply decided to ignore the feeling as she refused to allow this evil to roam freely, especially not on this sacred ground that was under her protection. Leaving the building and hurrying past the setsumatsusha and emas, Ayaka soon found what she believed to be the source of the evil presence that had drawn her away from her meditation as her eyes beheld the back of what seemed like an elderly that hovered slightly above the ground in a manner similar to a ghost.

She had no idea why this assumed spirit had come to the shrine, but she wouldn't allow it to threaten the visitors or anyone else in Infinity City. Swiftly pulling an ofuda out of the innocently ivory sleeve of her kosode, her peachy lips parted. "Rin, Pyō, Tō, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!" The process of chanting only required a minimum of focus as it was something that had been internalized decades ago and which had become as normal as breathing to her. The very moment the last syllable left her throat, the piece of paper between her fingers stiffened before it was then thrown at the stranger as she stopped her motions only a few meters away from the source of the evil presence. "Akuryo Taisan!" Watching the enchanted ofuda make its way to towards its target, Ayaka took a stance, preparing herself for whatever was going to happen. After all, this presence differed from the evil spirits she was familiar with.

Aya stood silent, her hazel spheres opened wide as she stared at the scene in front of her eyes. Despite her low breathing, her heart kept rushing within the depths of her chest, something inside her telling her to get away from who- or whatever this old man was. She hadn't felt a presence like this in a long time and the reaction the ofuda had caused from the previously floating stranger as it hit its mark had been more than just unexpected. From her past experience, her ofudas had either had no effect at all or either banished or completely immobilized evil spirits, but she had never seen something like this. Her ofuda had temporarily succeeded in banishing in whatever had possessed this man, but in turn also caused him harm. Even though she should have considered the fact that her ofuda at least had some kind of effect a relief, Ayaka's hair still stood on end as goose bumps covered her slender frame, hidden beneath her clothes.

Of course there was no way that the guardian of Mars would run away or let alone allow her fear to show, even though this strange, menacing aura had shaken the very core of her being. Her instincts told her that whatever this was, was beyond dangerous and she had therefore decided to deal with it, before it could potentially harm others. While she already held on to further ofudas with her right hand, her left hand had found its way inside her kosode, reaching for her transformation pen, when the being raised its voice, causing the blonde to hesitate its words, despite filled with a certain anger, lacked menace. Was this some new kind of youma? Or had the recent events further messed with her powers? But then again she had clearly seen the man float and the reaction he had shown as he had gotten hit by the ofuda had made it obvious that he wasn't human. Just what was going on?

Despite retrieving her fingers from the kosode without her pen in hand, the honey haired miko didn't drop her guard at all and instead kept her distance, carefully observing the intruder as she allowed her voice to pass the gates of her throat. "Supplicants usually don't possess innocent people and make them hover around. So save your act, we both know you're not just another visitor. Who- No, what are you? And why have you come here?" The tone of her voice bore semblance to the stern expression painted on her face as she tried her best to cast the unpleasant mixture of confusion and fear, which gnawed at every fiber of her body, aside. With her heartbeat echoing within her ears like violently played drums, just remaining standing there like this without her weakness showing took a lot of focus as Aya acted against all her instincts.

If it hadn't been for her pride, the young woman would have most likely searched for shelter within the depths of the shrine, a place that usually couldn't be approached by evil spirits, but she definitely didn't want to end up blaming herself for letting something this dangerous run free, especially not in her home. Even though she had seen that her ofudas could actually harm this being, she was quite sure that she would have to turn into Sailor Mars, if it came to a fight. The thought of calling the others crossed her mind, but was immediately dismissed as she didn't want to see Cyn's face, not after what she had told her during their last encounter. Waiting for the eerie creature to explain itself before she was going to exorcise it once and for all, Ayaka prepared herself to use further ofudas.
