FACE CLAIM: Kris Holden-Reid

Inventory

Cell phone: It was easy to obtain and just as easy to figure out how to use. It's a handy guide to both the local area, as well as the sum of the planets knowlege and history. And it keeps him connected to the few allies he has here.

Little Black Book: While he could mentally keep track of every lie and every person he's manipulated, he needs to dedicate more mental focus to achieving his goals. So, he keeps a little leather Moleskin notebook with each person's name and the circumstances of their interaction so he can remember and perhaps use that connection again in the future.

Hermes Core: A diamond like Star Seed that is the essence of his power. What was once a brilliant aquamarine seems clouded and dirty, with inky black spots all around it.

Limiter: Hermes wears an elegant watch with a leather band on his left wrist that keeps the time, date and phase of the moon. Much like the Deity himself, it serves a dual purpose.

The Caduceus: A midnight blue staff with two spirals of mercury that twine around it, culminating at what was once a royal blue orb and simple white wings has become an inky black orb with broken, black feathered wings to match. It serves as an extension of his power and a tool for channeling it as well.

Soldier

NAME: Deity Hermes
ELEMENT: Hydrokinesis, Spectrokinesis

Powers

Hydrokinesis: Water comes in many forms and holds many possibilities, making it a fitting element for Hermes. He can manipulate water in all of its forms be it liquid water, vapor or ice and changing the water present between them. Though he cannot create water, there are few places without some source of water near enough for him to tap into. At his strongest his power could transmute any organic substance to water by expanding whatever water was present within it. The outside restraint of his power is a benefit both to himself and everyone around him.

Spectrokinesis: Hermes will always have a connection to the souls of the dead. Though most may not be attracted to his presence since he no longer guides them to the Galaxy Cauldron, the soul of any deceased being that remains on Earth can be placed under his command.

Persuasion: There is more than just simple charm to Hermes' attitude and how he interacts with others. A simple suggestion or request becomes a command the person who hears it is compelled to obey. This mental manipulation can even alter a person's sense of logic or reality, but can never make a person do what they are not capable of. An extension of his power of manipulation, Hermes can lull an individual to sleep with his voice. The command may be immediate or a suggestion to fall closer into sleep over a short period of time. While he can force a person to sleep, he has no power over the dreams they experience while in this state. The strength of his ability to command a person in this way is affected by the strength of the victims willpower.

Enhanced Thievery: Hermes has an uncanny way of stealing things without anyone noticing. Things just seem to disappear without a trace when he's around and Hermes is long gone by the time anyone realizes what he's taken is even missing. Additionally, no lock is safe under his touch. Hermes can see the mechanics of it and unlock it by touching it. Any lock that is protected by magic however will require another to nullify the magic first.

High Speed: Travel is a part of Hermes' domain, having the ability to travel at high speeds to allow him to cross the galaxy faster. Of course, his speed is at its top performance when unencumbered by things like atmosphere and gravity since it is mainly meant for travel through space. On Earth his speed is limited to about 500mph.

Supernatural Intelligence: Many refer to Hermes as a jack of all trades, and rightly so. Any subject, any skill any language, he seems to have an innate understanding of. Where any subject he could have an intermediary understanding of, technology and engineering are his areas of mastery. Even modern computer technology is innately familiar to him after what felt like an eternity of sleep.

Akathisia: Hermes absolutely cannot stop moving. Even if he's resting, he'll tap his fingers or bounce his leg incessantly. Even then, he can't be sitting for long. Something inside of him compels him to keep moving, and keep moving fast. The longer he stays stationary the less control he has over his senses and abilities.

History

The sprawling void of the universe was always a comfort to the Deity of the planet Mercury. Where the other planetary Deities stayed happily within the confines of their worlds, Hermes spent a great deal of his time journeying between the planets in their solar system to the Sagittarius Zero Star in the center of the galaxy. Each soul that passed into death was called to Hermes, and it was his responsibility to return these souls safely to the Galaxy cauldron, the source of all life in the galaxy. Perhaps this weighty responsibility is why the planet he ruled was the smallest.

Hermes loved his home. Towering mountains and deep, warm oceans bookended wide, silvery plains and advanced cities. His people were proud, intelligent and curious. Not unlike him. And they gladly shared their knowledge with their brother and sister planets to further the prosperity of the Sol system. And when Hermes made his journeys that took him far from home, he knew that his trusted companions Aeschylus and Merope would care for their people in his stead.

The journeys to the Zero Star were lonely, with spirits not exactly the best conversationalists. But Hermes was not the only Deity who had a duty to the Cauldron. The Zero Star was the domain of Hades, and Hermes released the souls to him when he arrived. Hermes was happy to bring news from the rest of galaxy to Hades, who could not leave his post, and often stayed a little longer for conversation with the Underworld Deity.

Exactly when the tinge of Chaos first made its way into Hermes' heart can't be said. In his mind, things were always this way.

Hermes held his work of guiding souls with the reverence it deserved, but it was easy for him to be jealous of the other Deities. After all, they had only to rule and care for their planets and their people. Hermes had no such luxuries. With each journey away from his home a little more resentment grew in his heart.

Hermes made the most of the time he spent on Mercury, knowing how many days or weeks he would have before the next journey was to be made. And when his child was born, he knew exactly when to be there. And yet, so many milestones of her growth were missed while he was away. And his resentment grew stronger.

He had a reputation among the others for being a jokester, and his people knew him as mirthful as he was intelligent. He blew off steam with pranks - changing the colors of the vegetation, moving buildings, switching the sounds the native fauna would make. Even Jupiter would sometimes request a prank that was more specific.

It was mostly harmless fun for a long time…until some of them weren't laughing anymore.

Hermes was never sure what exactly it was that prompted the first of the other Deities to complain about his antics. But it marked a moment where the Mercurian Deity just wasn't going to settle for this insult. To explain why he was angry would only have made it worse.

After this, his pranks became more vindictive. Drying up wells, and rivers. Stealing irreplaceable heirlooms and magical artifacts. Even allowing the souls he was supposed to guide to linger and terrorize the populace before he would take them.

For Chronos, enough was enough. Hermes was never given a change to defend himself before he was sealed away. Hermes slept for countless ages, unaware of the fall of the Silver Millennium, his planet, and his daughter.

Until suddenly there was light, awareness. Someone had broken the seal that held him. And the first thing he felt was the sea of bitterness churning his heart, only compounded by the despair at seeing Mercury, in fact all but one of the planets, barren and devoid of life. And yet…the spark of all of them still existed on Earth somehow.

It was an easy feat to assume a human identity. They were just as gullible and trusting as he remembered. There was so much time to make up for, so much he needed to know. But one thing was clear - he would have his vengeance for Chronos' interference.

By now Hermes had lost count of the days. After a point it didn't matter how long he had been stuck, frozen immobile inside the planet Mercury. He would be here until the end of time; a cruel and unreasonable punishment for the crimes they claimed he committed. Hermes had always been on the move, rarely sitting still with the buzzing that seemed to emanate from his core. Being stationary for too long became uncomfortable, but Chronos knew just when Hermes slowed down enough to trap him.

It was difficult to keep his mind distracted as time flowed on. How long had it been since he could no longer sense any signs of life beyond his own on the planet? The agony of that only intensified the pain of not being able to move. Should be focus on the memories of his family, his people? Each one he could recall only brought him back to one thought, one purpose. Hermes would have his revenge on Chronos and all who had any loyalty to him.

There was one problem - he would need to free himself somehow first.

Hermes had tried countless ways to break the magic that held him all with the same result. Between every futile attempt an impotent rage only grew and festered.

A sudden flash of power caught his attention, the shockwave passing by him in a blip and then only silence. The curiosity of what has caused it was a welcome distraction he hoped could keep his mind occupied for a few hundred years.

It wasn't long before Hermes felt another power, one that was very familiar. And unless he was going mad, it was getting closer.
