With her purification at the hands of Neo Queen Serenity and Neo Sailor Moon, there is a shift in the wind – Greek deities (original planet rulers), heralds (Sailors/Knights) and Augurs (priest(esses) and consorts) from the past are being revived and Hades has been unsealed.

With the coming of Hades has seen the unsealing of Satre and Hyperion, and the future is now even more uncertain as the ruler of Nemesis has a vendetta against Chronos…and more. The Future Moon have now since reunited with the Crystal Empire, their memories have been restored. Will they be able to save their future that they can no longer return to?

Sophie Atwater

ALIAS: Arethusa - Her name in her past life. Gives her weird deja vu feelings.
Soph - She won't admit that she likes this nickname.
Dr. Atwater - She gets uncomfortable when anyone she's known since her teenage years calls her that.
Doc - Okay, though, she's very fond of this one, but also won't admit it.
AGE: 34
FACTION: Crystal Empire
ETHNICITY: Caucasian
OCCUPATION: Royal Advisor. Physician (not currently practicing).
FACE CLAIM: Olivia Taylor Dudley

  • Mercury Crystal - Her Sailor Crystal. Always feels vaguely frosty to the touch.
  • Supercomputer - A device used by Sailor Mercury, after being given to her by Luna many years ago, for analyzing data about enemies and environments, in order to form battle strategies.
  • Mercury Goggles - The Mercury Goggles allow Sailor Mercury to view data from her Supercomputer, as well as to take readings and assess enemies, allies, and situations. She can toggle them on and off through her earrings.
  • Mercury Harp - The sacred relic of Sailor Mercury, used for her strongest attack, but otherwise not useful. Sophie has not yet figured out how to play harp, but it is on her to-do list.
  • Cell Phone - A natural necessity, but Sophie has opted for a no-frills model that gets the job done and has top-notch security measures.

NAME: Sailor Mercury

  • Mercury Aqua Mist - A defensive ability that fills a space with chill bubbles, obscuring enemy vision and lowering the temperature of the space slightly.
  • Hyperspatial Sphere Generate - Sailor Mercury uses her greatest weapon. Math. Another defense, intended to protect innocent bystanders or precious things from a battle by isolating combatants in, essentially, a pocket dimension. Short term, useful, and requires calculus..
  • Shine Aqua Illusion - Sailor Mercury sends a flurry of streams of water towards her enemies, engulfing them.
  • Mercury Aqua Mirage - An attack that surrounds enemies in water or ice.
  • Mercury Aqua Rhapsody - An offensive move, using the Mercury Harp to lash out with ice-cold water.
  • Hydromancy - Sophie is highly sensitive to the flow of water, enough so that she can pinpoint the plumbing issues in your house if there are any.
  • Intelligence - Sophie is exceptionally intelligent, often lauded as a genius, and people throw around crazy numbers when it comes to her IQ. (She'll never confirm any of that, and is quick to remind people that IQ is a questionably valid measure anyway.) She's a very quick study and is exceptional with computers, and has been the strategist for the Sailor Guardians for many years.

Sophie Atwater grew up caught between two worlds--some would even say caught between two brains. Her parents were both brilliant in their own right, but her successful surgeon mother was the living embodiment of left brain qualities, and her famous artist father the same for all things right brain. It was not a shock to anyone in their lives that their marriage ended before their daughter started kindergarten; to many, it was a shock it had lasted that long at all.

Sophie remained fond of both her parents, but lived with her mother for the whole school year, seeing her father only on holidays and in the summer. Sophie was a precocious child; she was reading early, she used unnecessarily long words as an elementary schooler, and she quickly became more comfortable and confident in the presence of adults (teachers, tutors, her parents' friends) than her peers. In fact, from almost the beginning of her school years, Sophie struggled badly to make any friends her own age, and these years of struggle left her quiet and withdrawn among her peers, even as she shone and flourished academically.

Her mother was dedicated to her job above all else, but instead of resenting that, Sophie came to idolize it. She wanted to be just like her mother, to become a doctor and save lives, to graduate from a top medical school, and when she found herself sitting alone at lunch or with no invitations to meet friends after school, she just focused on her studies even more. People called her a girl genius--when they were being charitable, and other things when they were not.

Yes, of course her life changed when she met Cynthia Lunete, when the other teenager saved her from an impossible monster and told her she had a destiny as Sailor Mercury. But really? The course of her life was not altered nearly as much by being Sailor Mercury as it was by being Cynthia's friend. Even if there hadn't been the past life and the destiny and the duty, Sophie is quite convinced she'd have done everything for Cynthia just because of who Cynthia is. During their battles against various minions and incarnations of Chaos, Sophie came out of her shell. She made dear, dear friends. She found confidence and worth in something other than academics. She learned that there was more fun than pop-quizzing herself about what page a certain entry was on in the dictionary. It was hard, and brutal at times, but fighting for her friends would always be worth it.

When the last battle of the Sailor Wars was ended, and they found themselves returned to life, Sophie focused on trying to return the favors her friends had done her, in her own way: helping them study and pass college admissions tests, write and refine essays, or just providing the encouragement they'd given her all along the way. When it came time for college, it was to nobody's surprise that Sophie revealed a slate of prestigious acceptances, and she eventually selected Duke University, where she studied Biology and Engineering. She graduated in 2018, and came home in time for Cynthia and Jason's wedding, with the expectation that she'd be attending the University of Washington Medical School in the fall.

Things did not go according to her expectation. After five years of peace, she'd thought perhaps they were finally done, but when the Crystal Palace rose out of the ocean, Sophie promptly changed her med school plans to stay closer to home, supporting Cynthia as best she could through the transition from FSU; even when she revealed her identity as Sailor Mercury when Cynthia asked them all to, she went right back to classes in med school as soon as she was able. Which was a bit weird and a bit awkward. Still, even while being suddenly famous, she graduated from medical school and then took a residency in Infinity City, trying to keep her civilian life and her goals as a doctor separate from Sailor Mercury. Even as she acted as Neo Queen Serenity's advisor, it was important to her to stay at her hospital, though over the years her hours would slowly get chipped away, as she gave more and more time to the Crystal Palace, and less to medicine.

It took the frightening changes and threats to peace and the timeline, and the resurgence of Metalia and the Dark Kingdom to finally persuade Sophie to leave her job entirely. Now, she acts as a full time advisor to the Queen (and Palace physician as needed), determined to support her dearest friend through anything and everything that may come.

Sophie was famous around the Crystal Palace kitchens for two things: her visits at odd hours of the night and her opinion on good coffee. She might show up in the kitchen at two in the morning, or on either side of five in the morning--was she on her way to bed, or had she just woken up? It was sometimes very hard to tell, for the Guardian of Wisdom was unfailingly polite and always managed to look put together.

The taste for coffee she'd acquired after medical school, during those first challenging years in residency. And it had never gone away. So, at any odd hours, she'd turn up in the Palace kitchens, often with a tablet in one hand and distractedly reading notes or dossiers or documents as she walked in, but smiling pleasantly all the same, and try to get a fresh cup of coffee.

"Good evening," she said this time, smiling over the tablet she was holding. "Is there a fresh pot on?" She'd have looked a hundred percent put together, in fact, save for the small ink stain on her nose. So, whatever she'd been doing, she'd been writing in real ink as well as typing.

"I'm sorry," she added, as the lone cook on overnight duty started work, "I know it's an effort, it just... It tastes very different if it's been on the burner for a few hours, I really don't mean to be a bother, I'd be happy to do it myself!"

As always happened, this notion was soundly and immediately dismissed. Sophie leaned against the counter with a sigh, shaking her head. "I really can make my own coffee, I promise I haven't forgotten how."
